March 18, 2017: We received our first five new superheater units, and there are four of them in this photo.
Each unit has four elements (runs) and two ball ends. Thus, each unit contains two riser Pipes with a ball end (steam side and throttle side) and sixteen lengths of tubing. Each flue holds one element, each element has 2 lengths of tubing (one in, one out, with a return bend on the inner end and a return bend on the outer end connecting it to another element). Steam runs from steam side riser pipe, in, out, in, out, in, out, in, and out to throttle side riser pipe.
The fifth unit was installed in the engine for a test fit.
These superheater units were made possible by generous donations through our Sponsor a Superheater campaign. Won’t you consider sponsoring one? All donations are TAX DEDUCTIBLE.
