Thank You, John H Emery Rail Heritage Trust!

Portland, OR—August 10, 2020—The Emery Rail Heritage Trust and the Pacific Railroad
Preservation Association (PRPA) are pleased to announce the award of a special mid-year
grant of $35,000 to complete the boiler inspection and repair for the 4-8-4 SP&S 700. The grant
allows the PRPA to come close to reaching its fundraising goals for the Baldwin locomotive built
in 1938.

Final reassembly of the 700 is now in progress, with remaining superheaters, fire brick
for the firebox, welding, and insulation and jacketing installation as remaining tasks.
PRPA is reaching the final stage of work on the $250,000 project that would return the SP&S
700 to service.

The John H. Emery Rail Heritage Trust was created by Chicago native John Emery, who
enjoyed and loved the classic American passenger train. The trust is the largest of its kind
devoted to railway preservation. The trust was founded to demonstrate the late John Emery’s
love for the Golden Age of U.S. railroading.

“We greatly appreciate the Emery Rail Heritage Trust’s support of the PRPA, and our efforts to
restore the 700 to service. The trust has also supported our sister volunteer groups that are part
of the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation (ORHF), which operates the Oregon Rail Heritage
Center. This grant puts us on track to return the 700 to service in 2021 and utilize her for ORHF
activities as well as various community activities.”, says PRPA President Steve Sedaker.

To help PRPA, a 501 c(3) non-profit, reach completion of its 15-year inspection and return the
700 to service, donate online at www.sps700.org, or by sending a check to PRPA, P.O. Box
