April 21, 2017: So, I haven’t had much to talk about regarding the engine work going on lately. That’s because it’s been largely the same ‘ole. The ultra sounding progresses at a stately pace, and the old super heaters are still being recycled. There is some news, however:
- the first row of new super heaters is complete and “on site.” Gary O is hard at work on the second set.
- All the tubes and flues that need to be removed have been removed.
- The inside of the boiler has been given a cursory inspection and seems to be in pretty good shape. A more thorough inspection will begin shortly.
Next, we will be doing some odds and ends like knock out the cut ends of the tubes in the firebox flue sheet and clear away some braces and piping so we can ultra sound areas of the boiler we have not been able to access yet. We are also looking at removing some piping that needs to be repaired.
Nothing very exciting, but it keeps us off the streets.
