As of January 2000, the Federal Railroad Administration mandated that all steam locomotives undergo extensive mechanical inspections every 15 years, or after every 1,472 service days. This inspection is often referred to as the “15 Year Inspection”.

The 15 Year inspection typically results in costly rebuilds, repairs and/or replacements of locomotive parts. Because steam locomotive production ended over half a century ago, many of these parts must be custom fabricated. They just don’t stock them at your neighborhood parts stores.

As a non-profit organization, we rely on donations, memberships, grants and volunteer hours to meet all of our obligations. Below are several ways that YOU can help us to keep this beautiful piece of history on the rails.
