Volunteers

The Pacific Railroad Preservation Association is comprised of volunteers who are dedicated to the preservation of the SP&S 700 steam locomotive.

Some of our volunteers have lifetimes of experience as railroaders. Some of them have no experience around the railroad and are learning as they go.

Our volunteers consist of both men and women, old and young, working folks and retirees.

Some of our volunteers are happiest when doing the heavy or dirty work, and some prefer sweeping floors, handing tools to others, or organizing shelves. Several of our volunteers are skilled laborers (welding, machinists, etc) and there are those who have never used a power tool. Some of our volunteers work quietly behind the scenes doing 1374343_10201924255090011_1830213793_noffice work, accounting or business correspondences.

We have volunteers who live here in town and we have several who put in many hours from out of state.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life and each and every one of them plays an integral part in our mission.

We welcome new faces and ask only that those wishing to join us –

  • be responsible adults who are at least 18 yrs old
  • be willing to do menial tasks if asked to do so
  • be safety conscious at ALL times
  • be respectful of differences of opinion

Volunteers who put in the required number of hours within a year can become official CREW MEMBERS!

It’s hard work, and training new folks takes time away from other volunteers, so please apply only if you’re serious and willing to commit a significant amount of time to the 700.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, come on down to the Oregon Rail Heritage Center during normal business hours (Saturday mornings are usually best) and ask if there are any PRPA staff present. You can also complete the email form below and we will get the information to whom it needs to get to.
